Grief Counseling —

find healing and hope

Losing a loved one can be one of the most difficult things a person goes through, yet people often feel pressured to move on quickly and quietly. Overwhelming sadness, shock, or confusion can leave someone feeling alone and lost and finding a new normal can feel impossible. At Lightway Counseling and Psychology Services, we consider it an honor to walk alongside someone going through the grieving process and believe that having the space to share, feel, and make sense of your loss can help you heal and move forward.

Psychiatrist Elisabeth Kübler-Ross suggests that there are stages of grief that individuals move in and out of after losing a loved one. These stages of grief include denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Most people move back and forth between the stages of grief as they work to face, understand, process and accept their loss. Losing a loved one not only hurts emotionally, but it also changes life in countless ways. These changes can be both big and small. Adjusting to change takes time and patience, and gaining an awareness of the impact of the loss in your life can help you work through your feelings in healthy ways. When grief isn’t processed and dealt with directly, it often seeps out indirectly. It can end up causing additional pain, relational conflict, work stress, and complications like clinical depression or anxiety.

While it can be natural to want to avoid feelings of sadness in an effort to ‘just move on,’ sometimes taking the time to process a loss and work through grief can be the very thing that helps you move through your feelings and into healing and hope. If you have lost a loved one and feel lost in the dark, or as if you’re stumbling around life trying to find your way, I invite you to reach out to us to talk more about whether or not therapy could be helpful to you in this time.
